Purimachos

Purimachos Ltd. was a Bristol-based company with roots in railway and marine engineering going back to the very beginning of the 19th Century. They had developed Purimachos fire cements ("supercedes fireclay") by at least 1913. The product was so successful that their name became synonymous with the product itself and is still used generically today.

Purimachos based products have diversified: they now include Purimachos fire cement, Purimachos flue jointing compound and Purimachos heat proof plaster. You may find numerous similar heat proof ("refractory") products bearing the name, including heat proof paints, silicone sealants and so on.

The original Purimachos company ceased trading in approximately 2010 but the brand name is still used, notably by Everbuild of Leeds (now owned by swiss firm Sika). Whether they bear the Purimachos name or not, our range of refractory products are all sourced from quality producers including Everbuild and Vitcas who still manufacture Purimachos flue jointing compound and Purimachos fire cement in Bristol today.

As Purimachos of Bristol proclaimed in 1913, "There is no better substance for repairing Furnaces, Flues, Boiler Seatings & Bridges, &c". It is also widely used in engines, metal casting, fire back installation, oven door seals and for many other everyday domestic, mechanical, manufacturing and engineering repairs.

The range of refractory Purimachos-based products has diversified over the years, so you can now find specialised formulas with additional qualities such as Purimachos fire cement with sound-proofing qualities. Some formulations are now focused on filling, sealing or adhesive characteristics. If you need a specialised product you don't see currently listed, please contact our customer service line and we will do our very best to help.
