Metal braided fuel lines are a type of fuel line or hose used in heating and plumbing. They are constructed of an inner layer made of a flexible material such as synthetic rubber which is surrounded by an outer layer of tightly woven or braided metallic strands and typically made of stainless steel.
Braided stainless steel fuel lines are used to connect gas appliances to the gas supply. The metallic braiding gives excellent resistance to the high temperatures and pressure surges that can occur in fuel systems, and this makes them far more hard wearing than regular rubber hoses. The braided metal outer layers also stop the inner hose from ballooning or bursting under pressure, reducing the risk of fuel leaks, which could create a fire hazard.
The metal braiding also protects the rubber inner hose from cuts, abrasions or punctures that could occur if the fuel line comes into contact with anything sharp. Even though the metal braiding makes the fuel line more rigid, it still has sufficient flexibility to bend around components, and they are easy to install in tight spaces. As they are made from stainless steel, they are resistant to corrosion and rust and they are able to withstand high temperature and high pressure. They also have a reduced risk of leaks compared to rigid or plain rubber pipes.
